Kerala CM Vijayan Denies Using Police As ‘Political Intermediaries’ After ADGP's Meet With RSS Leaders

Kerala Chief Minister clarified that the government takes the matter seriously and is investigating Ajithkumar's meeting with RSS leaders.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday dismissed allegations that the ruling Left government uses police officers as "intermediaries for political purposes". His comments came in response to claims by Leader of the Opposition, V D Satheesan, that ADGP MR Ajithkumar had met with RSS leaders on behalf of the Chief Minister.

Speaking at a press conference, Vijayan rejected the accusation, as per PTI stating, "The opposition leader might be making such statements based on his party's past experiences of using police officers as intermediaries for various purposes. We do not have such practices."

The Chief Minister clarified that the government takes the matter seriously and is investigating Ajithkumar's meeting with RSS leaders. He assured that "appropriate action will be taken based on the report we receive."

The controversy over senior Kerala police officer MR Ajithkumar's 2023 meeting with two RSS leaders persists, with the CPI, a key ally in the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF, voicing dissatisfaction over his continued role as ADGP of law and order.

In an article in the party's mouthpiece Janayugam, senior CPI leader K. Prakash Babu stated that whether the meeting was official or personal, it is the ADGP's responsibility to clarify. He emphasized that such matters should at least be formally communicated to the police chief or the home department.

Babu added that if Ajithkumar fails to provide an explanation, he should be removed from his position.

Meanwhile, Pinarayi Vijayan has strongly defended his political secretary, P Sasi, in the wake of persistent criticism from Nilambur MLA P V Anvar. CM criticized Anvar for frequently holding press conferences targeting Sasi and ADGP Ajithkumar.

Vijayan dismissed Anvar's criticism as baseless, pointing out that the MLA lacks a Leftist political background, having originally come from the Congress party. He underscored that Sasi, a member of the CPI(M) state committee, has been carrying out exemplary work as his political secretary in accordance with the directives of the party.
