Karnataka: Eight Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested For 'Illegal' Stay In Udupi
Immigration officials at Bajpe airport, in Dakshina Kannada district, grew suspicious and detained Maniq who tried to leave to Dubai using a fake passport.
Eight Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in Udupi district were apprehended by police on Saturday. The individuals had been living in Hoode village for the past three years without valid passports or visas.
According to Udupi Superintendent of Police Arun K., the arrest followed an incident where one of the accused, Mohammed Maniq, attempted to leave for Dubai using a fake passport from Mangaluru airport.
Immigration officials at Bajpe airport in Dakshina Kannada district grew suspicious and recently detained Maniq. Upon interrogation, he revealed that seven other Bangladeshi nationals were staying with him illegally in Hoode village. Acting on this information, Udupi police conducted a raid on Friday and arrested the seven individuals. During the investigation, authorities discovered that the accused had fake Aadhaar cards, as per a report on PTI.
SP Arun stated that a probe is underway to uncover how the individuals obtained these fake identification documents and how they entered India from Bangladesh.
The eight detainees are currently in police custody and will be presented before a local court, as per the report.
In a separate case, Bengaluru police recently arrested 17 Pakistani nationals for illegal stay, with a new FIR being filed on Tuesday evening, according to the police. Speaking to reporters, Home Minister G. Parameshwara revealed that, according to the initial investigation, the four individuals entered India around 2014. Based on his information, Parameshwara said that they arrived in Bengaluru about a year ago. The Home Minister further disclosed that the suspects had gone so far as to acquire Indian passports and Aadhaar cards by changing their names.
The main suspect, Pervez Ahmed, also known as Farvez, was arrested on October 6 near the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) railway station in Majestic.
