'Kannadigas Among Victims': Siddaramaiah Deploys 2 Teams To J-K After Pahalgam Terror Attack

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah convened an emergency meeting after a Kannadiga was killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Two teams from Karnataka have been sent to assist the affected families.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday after receiving information that two natives were among the victims of the recent terror attack targeting tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. At least 26 people have died in the terror attack where terrorists fired 50 rounds on tourists, sources said. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will probe the case.

In a post on X, Siddaramaiah stated, “I strongly condemn the heinous terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, J&K. Kannadigas are among the victims of this shocking incident. Upon receiving the news, I convened an emergency meeting and reviewed the situation with the Chief Secretary and senior police officials. I have also spoken to the Resident Commissioner in Delhi.”

The Chief Minister informed that two teams — one comprising senior officers and another of police personnel — have been dispatched to Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, an adventure team from the Sports Department, led by Commissioner Chethan, is en route to the region. “We are closely monitoring the developments. All necessary support will be extended. Please be assured, the Government of Karnataka stands firmly with those affected,” he added.

‘Our Resolve To Fight Terrorism Will Only Grow Stronger’: PM Modi On Pahalgam Terror Attack

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, also condemned the attack, describing it as a “heinous act”. In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected.”

Sending a stern warning to those behind the violence, PM Modi asserted, “Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice… they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will only grow stronger.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed anguish over the incident and said he had briefed the Prime Minister and held a virtual meeting with key officials. He confirmed that he would soon visit Srinagar to personally assess the situation and chair a high-level security review. “Anguished by the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. My thoughts are with the family members of the deceased. Those involved in this dastardly act of terror will not be spared, and we will come down heavily on the perpetrators with the harshest consequences,” he wrote on X.

The terror attack, which took place on Tuesday afternoon, has left at least 12 people injured, including tourists and local residents. This is the first major attack targeting tourists in the Kashmir Valley in 2025, striking at a time when the region is experiencing an unprecedented tourist influx, with hotels in Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Sonamarg running at full capacity.

Security has been tightened across the Anantnag district and surrounding tourist destinations. Reinforcements have been deployed, and a search operation is currently underway to track down the perpetrators.
