Massive Fire Erupts Near Indian Oil Depot In Jharkhand’s Deoghar, Santhaldih Village Evacuated

A massive fire erupted at an Indian Oil depot in Deoghar, Jharkhand, prompting tanker relocation. A nearby village is being evacuated as a precaution.

A massive fire broke out near an Indian Oil depot in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district on Tuesday, prompting authorities to evacuate nearby villages and shift oil tankers to safety. According to officials, the fire erupted in the parking area of the depot, adjacent to Badladih village in Jasidih. The flames soon spread over a large area, raising concerns due to the presence of gas pipes at a distance from the site.

Sub Divisional Officer Ravi Kumar, who is overseeing the fire-fighting operations, told news agency PTI, “There was no loss of life or goods in the incident. The situation is under control.”

Videos from the scene show flames dangerously close to storage containers, with thick black smoke billowing towards the depot.

Deputy Commissioner Deoghar took to X and posed, "Taking quick action in the case related to the fire in the parking area of #IOCl and Badadih village within the Jacidh area of the district, fire engines are working to control the fire. Also, all oil tankers have been moved to a safe place from a safety point of view."

Santhaldih Village Evacuation Ordered As Precautionary Measure

NDTV reported that people from Santhaldih village, which is near the oil depot, have been asked to evacuate as a precautionary measure. A goods and passenger train stationed at Jasidih railway station—located close to the fire site—has also been moved away.

The Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has a petroleum storage and distribution centre in the Jasidih Industrial Area. Petrol, diesel, and other petroleum products stored at the depot are crucial for distribution across Jharkhand and surrounding regions.

More details are awaited.
