Bokaro Congress MLA Shweta Singh was arrested for violating curfew after a protest erupted near Bokaro Steel Plant.

Bokaro Congress MLA Shweta Singh has been arrested for violating curfew order. She was staging a dharna over the death of a youth in a lathicharge during a demonstration at Bokaro Steel Plant.
Earlier, a protest erupted near the administrative building of Bokaro Steel Plant on Thursday, prompting the CISF to allegedly resort to a lathicharge to disperse a group of people. At least two persons were said to have sustained injuries in the clash, one of whom died in the incident. After the death, Section 163 was implemented in the entire Chas subdivision area.
The district administration arrested Bokaro Steel Plant General Manager Hari Mohan Jha following the death of the protester during the Bokaro Displaced Apprentices' Union agitation. The victim's family will receive Rs 20 lakh compensation and a job. In addition to this, a three-member inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the matter, according to news agency IANS.
Why People Were Protesting At Bokaro Steel Plant
The group of people, under the banner of BSL Visthapit Apprentice Sangh, were staging a protest near the steel plant in support of their demands, including employment, a police officer said.
According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Bokaro City, Alok Ranjan, the demonstrators were obstructing employees, who were heading to the plant during the agitation.
The CISF personnel deployed there had urged them to allow the employees to enter the steel plant, but when they did not comply, the CISF personnel resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse them. Two demonstrators sustained injuries in the incident, the police officer said.
Talks with the administration, the management and public representatives late on Friday night remained inconclusive after which Bokaro's local Congress MLA Shweta Singh sat on a dharna with the displaced people outside Bokaro Steel Plant. On receiving the information, Bokaro DC and SP reached the spot with force and arrested Shweta Singh. The MLA was taken to the camp jail located in the circuit house.
