Jharkhand: BJP Leaders Anil Tiger Shot Dead In Ranchi, Accused Arrested After Encounter

Anil Mahto, also known as Anil Tiger, was shot dead by motorbike-borne gunmen in broad daylight near Kanke Chowk in the Jharkhand capital.

A BJP leader and former Zila Parishad member was shot dead in broad daylight in Ranchi on Wednesday, a police officer said.

Anil Mahto, also known as Anil Tiger, was shot dead by motorbike-borne gunmen in broad daylight near Kanke Chowk in the Jharkhand capital. The assailants opened fire at the BJP’s Ranchi Rural district general secretary while he was standing at a tea stall.

Upon receiving the information, the Kanke police reached the spot and launched an investigation. The motive behind the murder also remains unclear.

Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta said, "The incident is unfortunate. I knew Anil Tiger personally. The killers would be caught soon."

Soon after, the Jharkhand Police arrested an accused after an encounter. SSP Ranchi said after the accused was identified, the police teams started chasing him.

"On seeing the police, the accused opened fire after which the police shot at him in retaliations," the police official said. The accusedwas shot in the thigh and arrested.

Alleging that the law and order collapsed in the state ruled by a JMM-led coalition, BJP state president Babulal Marandi demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Meanwhile, local people blocked the Kanke road, disrupting traffic movement. Marandi visited RIMS hospital, where Anil Tiger had been taken, to meet the the family of the deceased.

“I am shocked by the news of BJP Ranchi rural district general secretary and former Zila Parishad member Anil Tiger ji being shot by criminals. Criminals are fearlessly attacking public representatives. The law and order situation in the state has completely collapsed, where neither public representatives nor common citizens are safe,” Marandi posted on X.

Demanding the arrest of the killers, he added, “Taking moral responsibility for this incident, the Chief Minister should resign immediately.”

BJP National Executive Member Deepak Prakash also hit out at the Jharkhand government, saying, "Lawlessness has taken over Jharkhand. The daylight killing of BJP leader Anil Tiger proves that the Hemant Soren government has surrendered to criminals."

Ranchi MLA CP Singh, reponding to the incident, wrote on X, "Law and order in Jharkhand has completely collapsed. Criminals gunned down BJP leader Anil Tiger in broad daylight at Kanke Chowk. How long will Jharkhand continue to be drowned in gunfire? May God grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the grieving family. Om Shanti."
