Jammu & Kashmir Police Starts Registering e-FIRs On Email, WhatsApp Complaints
The Jammu & Kashmir Police has modernised its operations by allowing 'e-FIRs' to be filed via email and WhatsApp.

The Jammu & Kashmir Police is working on adopting new-age technology in policing. With the modernisation of the police force, the Jammu & Kashmir Police has now started registering FIRs on complaints sent via email and WhatsApp.
Khrew police station in Awantipora police division of south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Tuesday became the first police station in Jammu and Kashmir to register an 'electronic FIR' for the first time after receiving a complaint through email.
Awantipora district police said in a post on X, "Awantipora police has lodged its first e-FIR following a complaint lodged through email."

According to the police, Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat, a resident of New Colony in Khrew, lodged a complaint against Adil Ahmed Bhat and Bilal Ahmed Bhat of the same area. The complainant alleged that members of his family were injured in an attack by the duo. He attached an OPD token from the Khrew Primary Health Centre and a copy of his Aadhaar card as proof to support his complaint.
Acting on the complaint, the police registered an e-FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) at the Khrew police station.
Earlier, taking a major step towards digital policing, Vilgam police station in Handwara registered its first Electronic FIR (e-FIR) on February 22 following a complaint lodged through WhatsApp. The complaint was filed by Imtiaz Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Asadullah Dar, a resident of Hanjipora, Kupwara, who is the driver of SRTC bus number JK01Y-1121.
Imtiaz alleged that he was on his way to Srinagar from Tarathpora in the morning when he was accosted by two men in Vilgam. He was then assaulted by the accused, Ashiq Hussain Bhat and Gauhar Ahmed Bhat, both residents of Vilgam. The complainant then contacted the police through WhatsApp.
In response to the complaint, Vilgam Police promptly registered an e-FIR under relevant sections of the BNS.
