ISRO Shares Before-And-After Satellite Images Of Massive Maha Kumbh Mela As Seen From Space: PICS
ISRO shared a combination of time series images dated 15 September, 2023 (pre-Kumbh Mela event) and the infrastructure development that stood as on 29 December, 2024.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday released before and after satellite images of the Mahakumbh Nagar in Prayagraj, giving an insight into the grandeur of the ongoing Maha Kumbh, which is drawing millions of people from all over India and across the world to take a holy dip at the Sangam.
The images showcase the extensive infrastructure and provide unique insights on details of the tent city, layout of structures and roads along with the network of pontoon bridges constructed at the Sangam in view of the Maha Kumbh.
The images were captured by EOS-04 (RISAT-1A) ‘C’ band microwave satellite with its all-weather capability and fine resolution (FRS-1, 2.25m).
It has a combination of time series images dated 15 September, 2023 (pre-Kumbh Mela event) and the infrastructure development as on 29 December, 2024.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also shared some of these images on X saying, "The Indian Soace Research Organisation has released stunning images of the Maha Kumbh Mela as seen from space."

The time series images captured by the ISRO satellites show the construction of the India-shaped park in Prayagraj, Shivalay Park, which is spread across 12 acres and is designed to be a major attraction for the Kumbh Mela.
The images taken on three separate dates have captured the construction of the park on 6 April, 2024, 22 December, 2024, and 10 January, 2025.
ISRO's National Remote Sensing Center also captured time series images of the Triveni Sangam, showing differences as in September 2023 and on December 29, 2024, and the Prayagraj Sangam. It also captured the zoomed section of the Ganga river showing the pontoon bridges.
Maha Kumbh is a mega-religious event that is organised every 12 years. It is being held in Prayagraj and will continue till February 26. More than eight crore pilgrims have already taken a holy dip at the Sangam so far.
