Indore’s Beloved 'Yamraj' Cop, Known For His Traffic Safety Initiatives, Dies in Tragic Accident

Indore Head Constable Jawahar Singh Yadav was known for his creative Covid-19 awareness campaigns, when he patrolled the streets dressed as Yamraj to remind people to stay indoors during the pandemic.

Indore News: In a tragic incident, Jawahar Singh Yadav, a head constable with the Indore Police fondly known as ‘Yamraj’ for his creative awareness campaigns, lost his life on Friday morning. His death has left the police department and the local community in mourning.

Yadav was caring for his cow when he got electrocuted, which led to his death. The accident also left his cow dead.

Yadav had gained widespread recognition in 2020 for his unique efforts to raise Covid-19 awareness. Dressed as Yamraj, the Hindu god of death, he patrolled the streets, reminding people to stay indoors and adhere to safety protocols during the pandemic.

At a time when fear and uncertainty prevailed, Yadav’s message was clear: stay home or face the ‘wrath of Yamraj'. His campaign emphasised vaccination and safety, warning of the risks of venturing out unnecessarily and urging everyone to get vaccinated to curb the virus's spread.

Electrocuted While Bathing Cow

Early on Friday, Yadav was bathing his cow in a small enclosure near his residence at the Juni Indore Police Line. According to police sources, a sudden electrical surge spread through the enclosure, leaving Yadav unconscious on the ground. A passerby noticed him and immediately informed the police. His family and colleagues rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors advised transferring him to Choithram Hospital. He was taken to that hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

Yadav, a head constable with the Crime Branch, was known for his lively spirit and dedication to serving the community. Aside from his Covid-19 awareness campaigns, he frequently dressed as Yamraj in campaigns encouraging motorcyclists to wear helmets. His creative approach made him a popular figure in the Indore Police, where he was admired for his dedication to public welfare and unique sense of humour.

A postmortem was conducted on Yadav's body, and the police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
