'Told Him Not To Go...': Missing Indore Woman's Audio Surfaces As Husband’s Body Found In Meghalaya Gorge

An audio recording believed to be the last known communication of Sonam Raghuvanshi, a woman from Indore who went missing during her honeymoon in Meghalaya, has surfaced amid ongoing search efforts. The chilling clip has added a new layer to the unfolding mystery, as her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was found in a deep gorge days after the couple vanished.
The couple had checked into a homestay in Nongriat village, located in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, on May 22. The next morning, they checked out. Neither had been seen since until June 3, when Raja’s body was found near Sohra.
'We're In A Dense Forest, Nothing Is Available Here'
In the purported audio clip, Sonam is heard talking to her mother-in-law while trekking through a heavily forested area. “We're climbing right now... will talk later,” she said. Her mother-in-law then reminds her it must be her fasting day, to which Sonam replied, “Yes, it is. But I won't break my fast just for this outing.”
She then goes on to express her discomfort with the terrain and conditions. “We're in a dense forest, nothing is available here. The climb is steep. I had told him (Raja) not to go, but he never listens. I'm exhausted. The food here isn't good either. It's hard to breathe while walking.”

Raja’s Final Words: 'Only 2 Days Of The Trip Are Remaining'
A separate clip captured Raja’s phone conversation with his mother, in which he can be heard saying that they had reached the summit and were eating fruits. When asked why he hadn’t shared videos, he explained there was no internet connectivity. His mother then asks when they will return. "Only two days of the trip are remaining," he replied.
These audio snippets offer haunting glimpses into the couple’s final moments before they disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
Raja's Body Identified By Tattoo, Sonam Still Missing
Following the disappearance, a search operation was launched on May 24 with assistance from local villagers. Rescue efforts intensified after days of challenging weather, including heavy rain and low visibility. On June 3, Raja's body was discovered in a gorge. His brother identified him by a tattoo of his name "Raja," on his right hand. Police confirmed he was murdered, and a machete was found beside his body.
A woman’s white shirt, a strip of medicine, a broken mobile phone screen, and a smartwatch were also recovered at the scene. These items are now key to the investigation, as authorities continue to search for Sonam.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has now joined the search effort. However, as of now, Sonam remains untraceable.
