UP Cousins Married To Each Other 'Die By Suicide': 'Feared Family Would Never Accept'

The cousins, who hailed from the same village, went missing on February 16. In their suicide note, they said they feared that their families wouldn't accept them as a married couple.

A couple was found hanging in their rented apartment in the Kavi Nagar area in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday. The two were cousins who hailed from the same village in Farrukhabad and got married without their families’ consent.

According to The Times Of India (TOI), the deceased were Piyush, 23, and Nisha, 18, who allegedly died by suicide because they feared that their family wouldn’t accept them as a married couple.

In a three-page suicide note found at the site, it said that the couple married based on their well and had been living in Ghaziabad ever since.

According to TOI, the two had been missing from home since February 16.

Upon receiving information at 4 pm that a man and a woman had hanged themselves inside a rented room in Mahindra Enclave's F Block. A police team reached the spot and broke open the door, where they saw the couple hanging. The police rushed the two to the hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.

Family Informed About The Death

While inquiring the family members, they found out that the two had been living in Mahindra Enclave since February 18.  Swatantra Kumar Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ASP), Kavinagar, told The Indian Express that the bodies were sent for post-mortem. “The suicide note is also being investigated, and all the necessary legal actions are being taken,” he added.

As per TOI, the family has been informed about the incident, and authorities are verifying whether a missing person report was filed.

Upon returning, her father allegedly discovered them in a compromising position and, in a rage, strangled both to death. Locals noted that Balram belonged to the Nai (barber) community while Drishti was from a Jat family. Authorities are investigating the case.

Police have arrested Pushpendra and Drishti's cousin Vineet after registering an FIR based on a complaint lodged by Balram's father Rajeshwar, inspector Manoj Kumar Chahal from Baraut police station said.
