65-Year-Old Man Beaten To Death In Faridabad Over Diwali Firecracker Dispute

The attackers, identified as Raju, Dheeraj, and Nandu, reportedly beat the elderly man, who was later rushed to the hospital but died during treatment.

A 65-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death in the Faridabad district of Haryana after he raised objections to people bursting firecrackers in his neighborhood.

As per the India Today report, the son of the victim said, Vinod, a neighbour, and his friends were setting off firecrackers late on Diwali night in Sector 18. When the victim, Bachchan Rai, asked them to stop, a verbal altercation followed, which escalated into a physical assault.

The attackers, identified as Raju, Dheeraj, and Nandu, reportedly beat Rai, who was later rushed to the hospital but died during treatment. The complaint stated that Vinod and his wife were also assaulted when they tried to intervene.

The wife of the victim accused the police of negligence, stating that although three police teams arrived after being alerted, they argued over jurisdiction instead of taking action.

The police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have formed teams to arrest them. In response to the incident, the public relations officer (PRO) official of the Faridabad Police, Yashpal Singh, said, "A case has been registered against the accused and efforts are underway for their arrest. We are also probing the allegations of negligence by police teams and suitable action will be taken after that".

Man, His Nephew Shot Dead On Diwali Night In Delhi

In a separate incident, a 40-year-old man and his teenage nephew were shot dead, and his 10-year-old son was injured when two armed men opened fire outside their home during Diwali celebrations in northeast Delhi's Shahdara on Thursday, police said, news agency ANI reported.

The victims, identified as Akash Sharma, his nephew Rishabh Sharma, and son Krish Sharma, were celebrating Diwali around 8 pm when the attack took place.

Akash's wife said she recognised the attackers, noting that a longstanding land dispute existed between them. Akash's brother, Yogesh, added that their family was falsely accused in a case last month after the attackers allegedly shot at their own house but then filed charges against them.

He also claimed that police deleted video evidence of the incident from their phones and instead accused the family of involvement in fights.
