Indore: Tension Erupts As Groups Clash Over Bursting Crackers; Cars Vandalised, 4 Injured In Stone Pelting

The incident took place in Indore's Chhatripura area, where some children were bursting crackers in the afternoon. Police assured that the situation was brought under control.

Indore: An argument which began over children bursting crackers turned into a violent clash between two groups in Madhya Pradesh's Indore city on Friday, November 1. Four people sustained injuries in the stone pelting during the clash, prompting police to hold a flag march to restore law and order. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reacted to the incident saying that the state government will not tolerate if someone takes laws in their hands and stops people from celebrating.

The incident took place in Indore's Chhatripura area, where some children were bursting crackers in the afternoon. When some people objected to this, a clash broke out in which vehicles parked on road were vanadalised and set ablaze.

"Some people had an argument over children bursting crackers. This was fanned by an old rivalry between neighbours. It soon led to stone pelting between two groups, resulting in minor injuries to four persons. Some vehicles were also damaged in t he stone pelting," Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishikesh Meena told news agency PTI.

The police officer urged people in the area to maintain peace and assured that the situation was brought under control.

"A flag march was carried out in the area, where the situation now is completely under control. People must ignore rumours and maintain peace. There is sizable police presence in Chhatripura area. We are checking CCTV footage to identify those who disturbed law and order," Meena added.

He also said that the area is bein watched by a team of 80 policemen and that strict action will be taken against those who are found guilty, Dainik Jagran reported citing DCP Meena.

The situation was brought under control after police arrived at the scene on time. The injured were taken to a hospital where they are being treated. An investigation has been initiated into the matter, based on which action will be taken,

The area has residents from both Hindu and Muslim communities. Following the incident of stone pelting, members of a Hindu outfit even staged a protest in front of Chhatripura police station demanding action against people of the other group.

MLA Malini Gaur's son Eklavya Gaur arrived at the Chhatripura police station after the clash along with members of the Hindu groups. He requested strict action against the other group.

'Will Not Tolerate Anyone Stopping People From Celebrating': CM Mohan Yadav

On the Indore issue, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav said that people trying to take law in their hands is not acceptable in the state. He stressed that the government wouldn't tolerate if anyone stops people from celebrating.

"Children from Indore who were bursting crackers and celebrating Diwali were stopped from doing so and the people tried to take the law in their hands. This is not acceptable in our government. We respect each religion equally... Our government is known for good governance and we will not tolerate anyone stopping people from celebrating," he said.
