“Contact has been established with terrorists. The operation is currently in progress,” said the Army spokesperson in a brief statement.
The number of terrorists involved, their identity, and any possible casualties are yet to be confirmed as the operation is ongoing. Officials said the joint team had launched a search-and-cordon operation following intelligence inputs about terrorist movement in the region.
Reinforcements have reportedly been rushed to the area to seal off possible escape routes. The dense foliage and difficult terrain are likely to prolong the engagement, officials added.
This is the latest in a series of counterterrorism operations being conducted across Jammu and Kashmir in recent months, as security forces intensify their efforts to neutralise militant threats in less-accessible regions.
