Delhi Lies In A High-Risk Earthquake Zone
Delhi falls under Seismic Zone IV, the second-highest classification on India’s seismic zoning map, making it highly vulnerable to earthquakes.
The region frequently experiences tremors triggered by both near-field (local fault lines) and far-field (Himalayan seismic activity) sources. Experts have repeatedly warned that Delhi's dense population, high-rise constructions, and unplanned urban sprawl make it particularly susceptible to serious damage in the event of a major earthquake.
