Disha Salian Case: Mumbai Police Probe Links Suicide To Depression, 'Financial Misuse' By Father — Report

Disha Salian's death has been ruled a suicide by Mumbai Police due to depression from multiple factors, including financial misuse by her father.

The Mumbai police’s closure report in the Disha Salian death case has concluded that the former celebrity manager died by suicide and was battling depression due to multiple reasons, including alleged misuse of her money by her father. The report, submitted by the Malvani police to a superior officer on 4 February 2021, stated that Salian had been facing difficulties related to failed projects, misunderstandings with friends, and financial issues, an official said on Friday.

Salian, who was actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s former manager, allegedly jumped from the 12th floor of her building in Jankalyan Nagar, Malad, on 8 June 2020. As part of the investigation, the police recorded statements of her friends and witnesses, as well as actors she had been communicating with on behalf of her company, the official added, as per news agency PTI.

"As part of the probe, Malvani police recorded statements of her friends and some witnesses, during which it came to light that she was depressed due to some failed projects, misunderstanding with friends and misuse of her money by her father," the official said, as reported by PTI.

Amid political controversy surrounding the case, the Mumbai police set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT), but its report is still awaited. Last week, Salian’s father, Satish Salian, moved the Bombay High Court seeking a fresh probe into the circumstances of her death. He also urged the court to order the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and requested that the case be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

After Murdering Disha Salian, Sena UBT Faction Now Maligning Her Father: Sanjay Nirupam

Meanwhile, senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam on Friday accused the rival Shiv Sena (UBT) faction of maligning Satish Salian. Addressing a press conference, he demanded that Mumbai police disclose the full details of the closure report.

“After murdering Disha Salian, the (Sena) UBT faction is now maligning her father Satish Salian,” Nirupam alleged, as quoted by PTI. He further claimed that the Shiv Sena (UBT) had attempted to suppress the case when Uddhav Thackeray was the chief minister.

“The (police’s) closure report included false information to defame the Salian family,” he said, questioning whether Malvani police had been pressured to cover up the case. He also called for re-recording of statements.

Nirupam alleged that “Aaditya Thackeray and his associates are the prime accused in Disha’s murder, and now they are attacking her father’s reputation.”

The case has remained in the spotlight, with former Union minister Narayan Rane previously claiming that Rajput was murdered.
