Delhi Reports 104 Active Covid-19 Cases, CM Rekha Gupta Says 'No Need To Panic'

India has reported a total of 1,009 Covid-19 cases as of May 26. The surge comes as several states across the country continue to detect active cases of the newly emerging variants — NB.1.8.1 and LF.7

Delhi has reported a total of 104 active Covid-19 cases even as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said there was no need to panic about the Covid caseload. The national capital reported 99 new Covid-19 cases in the past week taking the total case to 104.

India has reported a total of 1,009 Covid-19 cases as of May 26. The surge comes as several states across the country continue to detect active cases of the newly emerging Covid-19 variants — NB.1.8.1 and LF.7.

The Delhi CM said that the hospitals were fully prepared to tackle Covid cases if the number rises. Meanwhile, all health institutions have been asked to send all positive Covid-19 samples for genome sequencing to Lok Nayak Hospital.

According to official figures, Delhi has 104 cases of the resurgent virus. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event, the CM said, "We have details of the COVID-19 cases. Our hospitals have all the facilities. We have also issued an advisory."

"We have analysed the scenario and there is no panic situation," she said.

On Friday, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh said that 23 COVID cases had been reported till Thursday, and the government was verifying whether the infected, if they were residents of Delhi, had travelled outside the city recently.

The minister said the cases were reported by private labs and there is no need to panic, adding that the variant has normal influenza-like symptoms.

"There is no reason to be afraid of Corona. All patients who have come in now show symptoms of a normal cold-cough... So there is nothing to panic, and this visible variant is slowly developing like a viral. No one needs to be afraid of this," Singh said.

While Delhi has reported 104 cases, the highest number of cases have been reported in Kerala (430) and Maharashtra (209). Other states where COVID-19 cases have been reported are Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan, among others.
