Delhi HC Withdraws Judge Yashwant Varma From Active Duty After Cash Found At His Home

Delhi High Court has removed Justice Yashwant Varma from all judicial duties following allegations of cash discovery at his residence after a fire.

The Delhi High Court on Monday withdrew judicial work assigned to Justice Yashwant Varma, from whose official residence a large stash of cash was allegedly discovered after a fire, with immediate effect till further orders, news agency PTI reported.

Additionally, another note attached to the cause list of the day on the high court's website stated that the court master of division bench-III, which was headed by Justice Varma, will give dates in matters listed before today.

On March 22, the Supreme Court uploaded on its website the inquiry report of Delhi High Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya, complete with photos and videos, regarding the alleged discovery of a substantial amount of cash from Justice Varma's residence.

Justice Varma Refutes The Allegations

Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Varma had refuted allegations regarding the alleged discovery of currency at his official residence, asserting that neither he nor any of his family members ever placed cash in the storeroom.

In a response submitted to Delhi High Court Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya, Justice Varma described the accusations as a clear attempt to frame and defame him. His reply follows an in-house inquiry initiated by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna.

Justice Varma criticised the media for failing to verify facts before publishing claims that tarnished his reputation. He reiterated that he had no knowledge of any money or cash in the storeroom.
