Delhi Winter Chill Forces Many To Take Refuge At Night Shelters, No Respite From Cold Wave Any Time Soon
Delhi faces a coldwave with a thin fog, prompting a yellow alert from the IMD.
Winter chill continues to persist in Delhi as the India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for a coldwave for Friday. A thin layer of fog was observed in the national capital on Friday morning as the temperature remained around 6 degrees Celsius.
People were seen taking refuge at night shelters set up by the Delhi government as the coldwave tightened its grip in the national capital.
The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has set up 235 tents across the city to provide shelter to homeless individuals during cold winter nights.
The Delhi government launched its winter action plan 2024-25 on November 15 under which 250 tents are to be set up while the remaining 15 have been reserved for an emergency.

Other parts of north India are also in the grip of coldwave with IMD issuing a yellow alert for coldwave for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West and East Uttar Pradesh and West and East Rajasthan.
