Delhi Cocaine Bust: UK Resident With 'Direct Links' To Dubai Handlers Arrested

Delhi Police arrested a fifth suspect, Jitendra Pal Singh, in connection with the seizure of over 500kg of cocaine in the city.

The Delhi Police has made the fifth arrest following the seizure of over 500kg of cocaine this week - the largest-ever drug bust in the city. The arrested accused is an alleged member of the drug cartel, which supplied the seized cocaine worth Rs 5,000 crore. He was reportedly nabbed on Thursday while he was trying to flee to London.

The arrest came days after Delhi Police busted the drug cartel and arrested four people on Tuesday. The arrested accused have been identified as Jitendra Pal Singh alias Jassi, according to several media reports.

He was arrested at Amritsar airport in Punjab while trying to flee to the United Kingdom. Singh has been living in the UK for the past 17 years as a 'permanent resident', according to a report by NDTV.

As per the report, he is an Indian citizen who had flown in from London to supervise the cartel's operations in India. The 40-year-old accused was trying to return to the UK after cops seized the drugs and issued a lookout notice (LOC) against him.

Singh, whose father used to work in the Indian Navy, reportedly delivered instructions to one of the other four accused regarding distributions and clientele on behalf of Dubai-based handlers.

“Jassi is directly linked to the Dubai handlers. He is one of the key players in the cartel and has been living in the UK for more than two decades. He planned on leaving India later in October, after ensuring that instructions from Dubai were followed. But after the bust, he tried to flee from Amritsar airport,” Indian Express reported quoting a source with the Delhi Police.

'Biggest Ever Drug Bust In Delhi'

The Delhi Police made one of the biggest drug busts ever seen in the city, seizing over 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana estimated to be worth around Rs 5,620 crore from South Delhi's Mahipalpur on Tuesday. It also arrested four people, identified as Tushar Goyal (40), Himanshu Kumar (27) and Aurangzeb Siddiqui (23) of Delhi and Bharat Kumar Jain (48) of Mumbai.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P S Kushwah said Goyal, a resident of a posh locality in Vasant Vihar, is a major distributor of narco substances in India for this international racket. The other three are his associates. Goyal is also suspected to have links in Dubai and countries in West Asia, the official said.

Kushwah said the accused would mostly pay in cryptocurrency to acquire the drugs and sell them in various parts of India.
