‘Delhiites Don’t Feel Safe Stepping Out’: CM Atishi Slams Modi Govt After Govindpuri Stabbing, Visits Injured
Delhi CM Atishi criticised the BJP-led central government for failing to ensure law and order in the capital after an 18-year-old scrap shop worker was stabbed to death by his neighbours.
An 18-year-old scrap shop worker, Sudheer, succumbed to multiple stab wounds following a violent altercation over the use of a common toilet in south Delhi’s Govindpuri area late Friday night. His 22-year-old brother, Prem, is critically injured and undergoing treatment. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, who has accused the BJP-led central government of failing to ensure law and order in the capital.
Speaking to the media after visiting AIIMS Trauma Centre to meet the injured, CM Atishi said, “This is the same area where, at a distance of 100-200 metres, an on-duty constable was shot dead two weeks ago. Today, a man has been stabbed to death here, and another is critical. The BJP-ruled central government has only one responsibility in Delhi: law and order. They have completely failed in this task.”
Atishi criticised the Modi government, stating, “Every day, someone is being murdered, there is firing, someone is getting threats of kidnapping, or extortion calls. Today, the BJP-ruled central government has caused a total breakdown of law and order in Delhi. The people of Delhi are troubled by your law and order system. No one feels safe stepping out of their house.”

She also warned of public outrage, saying, “The people of Delhi will have to come together to show the central government its rightful place if it continues to neglect its responsibilities.”

Govindpuri Stabbing: Fight Broke Out Over Common Toilet, Delhi Police Say
Sudheer was fatally attacked with a kitchen knife by his neighbours—Bhikam Singh, his wife Meena, and their three sons Sanjay (20), Rahul (18), and a minor boy—after a dispute arose when Bhikam's youngest son failed to flush the common toilet, police said, as per news agency PTI. Both families, tenants on the same floor, engaged in a heated argument that escalated into violence. Sudheer’s friend, Sagar, also suffered injuries but was later discharged from hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Ravi Kumar Singh said, “We received a call regarding two people who were admitted to hospital in a critical condition. After reaching the hospital, it was found that a person had died due to stabbing injuries and his brother was injured. They had a fight with another family over a common toilet.”

Police have registered a case of murder and apprehended Bhikam Singh and his family for investigation. According to a neighbour, Sagar Malik, the victims were attacked with rods and knives. “Bhikam’s family called the police and claimed their mother was attacked,” Malik added, as per PTI.
Sudheer, a native of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, shared the rented accommodation with his brother Prem, an e-rickshaw driver, paying Rs 3,000 per month. Bhikam Singh, employed at a building materials shop, had moved into the building just 45 days ago.
