'Cut Cake, Not Animals': BJP MLA's Appeal On Bakra Eid, Writes To Letter To DCP
BJP MLA Nand Kishore Gurjar seeks a Bakrid slaughter ban near Loni's Hindon Airport, citing bird hazards and a past aircraft crash.

Politics During Bakra Eid: BJP MLA Nand Kishore Gurjar from Loni, Ghaziabad, has written to the Ghaziabad DCP (Rural), requesting a ban on animal slaughter, meat shops, and slaughterhouses near Hindon Airport in Loni on Bakrid (June 7th). He claims these attract birds, potentially causing aircraft accidents, citing a past incident involving an aircraft crash.
Known for his controversial statements, Gurjar's letter has again brought him into the limelight. The administration is yet to respond.
Accusations of Disturbing Public Order
Gurjar alleges some individuals might use Bakrid as a pretext for cow slaughter to disrupt peace. He suggests a symbolic alternative: cutting a cake shaped like an animal.
Contents of the Letter
Gurjar's letter mentions that Bakrid, celebrated nationwide on June 7th, deserves respect. However, citing a survey by former Loni Nagar Palika Executive Officer DK Rai, he points out that Loni falls under aircraft ordinance restrictions. Operating slaughterhouses, meat shops, and collecting bones is prohibited and considered sedition, given a past incident involving an Indian Air Force fighter jet crash in Loni. He also claims to have received information about large-scale animal slaughter planned in Loni and fears some might use this to disturb the peace by slaughtering cows. He states that his workers will monitor the area using drones and appeals to the community to celebrate an eco-friendly Eid by cutting a cake shaped like a goat, suggesting this has been done before.
Calls for Ban on Slaughter in Several Areas
Besides Gurjar, other Hindu organisations have also voiced opposition to animal slaughter during Bakrid. The Ghaziabad administration is yet to respond to these concerns.
