Chennai & Coimbatore Power Cut Scheduled For July 16: Check Affected Areas

TANGEDCO has announced planned power cut in Chennai and Coimbatore for undertaking maintenance works on Wednesday (July 16, 2025).

The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has announced scheduled power outages in several parts of Chennai and Coimbatore on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, to facilitate routine maintenance work.

Chennai Power Cut

Perungudi (9 AM – 2 PM): Residents in areas such as Kamaraj Nagar, Rajalakshmi Avenue, Telephones Nagar, VPK Street, Venkateshwara Nagar, and Kurunji Nagar under the Taramani 33/11 kV feeder will experience a power outage. The shutdown is part of annual maintenance work on the feeder.

Pattabiram (9 AM – 5 PM): A longer outage is scheduled in Pattabiram and surrounding areas including Sekkadu, Thandurai, Iyappan Nagar, Sri Devi Nagar, Kannappalayam, Gopalapuram, VGV Nagar, and VGN. The interruption is to carry out general maintenance, including 11kV breaker meggering, clamp bolt replacement, and jumper repairs.

Coimbatore Power Shutdown

Multiple areas across Coimbatore will face power cuts between 9 AM and 4 PM, primarily due to substation maintenance and vegetation management:

Kalapatti Zone: Affected areas include Kalapatti, Cheranma Nagar, Nehru Nagar, SITRA, Valliampalayam, K.R. Palayam, Villankurichi, Thanneerpandal, Peelamedu Industrial Estate, Sharp Nagar, and Maheswari Nagar.

Villankurichi Zone: Power will be shut down in Thanneerpandal, Lakshmi Nagar, Murugan Nagar, Cheranma Nagar, Kumudham Nagar, Jeeva Nagar, and Sengaliappan Nagar.

Keeranatham Zone: Outages are expected in Keeranatham, Varathaiyangarpalayam, Idigarai, Athipalayam, Saravanampatty (some areas), Viswasapuram, Revenue Nagar, Karantumedu, Sivanandhapuram, Sathy Road, Sankara Veethi, Ravi Theatre area, and Vinayaka Nagar. The works include both equipment maintenance and tree-cutting.

KG Chavady Zone: Residents in Chavady Pudur, Navakkarai, Veerappanur, and Kaliapuram will also be affected due to substation work.

TANGEDCO has advised residents in these areas to make necessary arrangements and assured that power will be restored ahead of schedule if work concludes early.

Meanwhile, at the time of power cut, it is advised to unplug sensitive appliances to protect them from voltage surges. It is also insisted to use battery-powered lights or a flashlight and stay cool by keeping windows open if safe.
