Chennai Power Shutdown On March 8, 2025: The outage, which will last from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, is aimed at enhancing the power supply system’s efficiency and reliability.

Chennai Power Shutdown On March 8, 2025: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has announced a scheduled power outage in several areas across the state on Saturday, March 8, as part of its maintenance activities. The shutdown, which will last from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, is aimed at enhancing the power supply system’s efficiency and reliability.

Areas To Be Affected

In Alamathy, the power shutdown will impact areas such as Kilkondaiyur, Arakkam Village, Karlapakkam Village, Thamaraipakkam Village, Kathavur Village, Velachery Village, Pondeswaram Village, Karanai Village, Pudhukuppam Village, Pal Pannai Road, Vel Tech Road, and Kollume. The outage is necessary to facilitate the erection of an additional 10MVA, 110/11KV power transformer, increasing the capacity from 2x10MVA to 3x10MVA.

This follows a similar outage last Saturday in several Chennai localities, including Sydenhams Road, Deppo Street, P.T. Mudhali Street, Sami Pillai Street, A.P. Road, Hunters Lane, General Collins Road, and others. Last Saturday, shutdown was also experienced in parts of Coimbatore, including Paduvampally, Kanjapally, Kakapalayam, and Chokampalayam.

Importance of Maintenance

The TNEB has emphasised that these maintenance activities are essential for ensuring a stable and reliable power supply in the long term. Residents in the affected areas are advised to plan accordingly and take necessary precautions to minimize disruptions during the outage period.

Meanwhile, power shutdowns can be inconvenient and sometimes hazardous if proper precautions are not taken. Ensure to fully charge mobile phones, laptops, power banks, and other essential devices. Keep a portable charger ready for emergencies. Unplug sensitive electronics (TVs, computers, etc.) to protect them from power surges when electricity is restored. Turn off major appliances like air conditioners, heaters, and stoves.

Further, keep updated on the outage schedule and any changes through official TNEB announcements. In case, power connections do not resume, residents have been instructed to inform the authorities.
