BJP's Harpreet Kaur Babla Wins Chandigarh Mayor Polls, Defeats AAP By 2 Votes

Harpreet Kaur Babla of the BJP emerged victorious in the Chandigarh Mayor elections, defeating Prem Lata of AAP by two votes.

Bharatiya Janata Party's Harpreet Kaur Babla won the Chandigarh Mayor elections on Thursday defeating Aam Aadmi Party's Prem Lata by a slim margin of two votes. Babla secured 19 votes while Lata got 17 votes and no vote was found invalid in the civic polls contested by BJP and AAP-Congress alliance.

The result was announced by presiding officer Ramneek Singh Bedi.

The saffron party has a total of 16 councillors in the 35-member house of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, while AAP has 13 councillors and its ally Congress has six councillors.

Besides the councillors, the Chandigarh MP also has a voting right as an ex-officio member. Congress leader Manish Tewari is the incumbent Lok Sabha MP from the Chandigarh seat.
