Illegal Mosque Demolished in Sambhal's Chandausi; Action Taken Under SDM’s Supervision

In Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, authorities demolished the Raza-e-Mustafa Mosque in Chandausi for illegal construction on municipal land.

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district initiated the demolition of the Raza-e-Mustafa Mosque in Chandausi on Saturday, citing illegal construction on municipal land. The mosque, located in the Waris Nagar area under Chandausi Kotwali, was reportedly built by encroaching on land owned by the Nagar Palika (municipal council).

The mosque committee began the demolition themselves using a bulldozer, following prior notices issued by the administration. Officials confirmed that the mosque, along with 33 nearby houses, was constructed illegally on approximately six bighas of municipal land. The administration had earlier issued a notice on 5 June, granting 15 days to vacate the premises or face legal action.

According to the district administration, the mosque committee initially started dismantling the structure on 18 June with the help of about a dozen labourers. However, the progress was deemed too slow. As a result, the administration intervened on Saturday with additional resources, including a bulldozer, prompting the committee to commit more manpower to expedite the demolition.

Under the supervision of SDM Vinay Mishra, the Nagar Palika team, along with local police, RRF, and PAC personnel, arrived in the Laxman Ganj locality and began the official demolition process. Heavy police deployment was ensured across the neighbourhood to maintain law and order during the operation.

Circle Officer Anuj Chaudhary was also present at the site. SDM Mishra stated that the mosque committee was cooperating with the administration in removing the illegal structure, and that the situation on the ground remained peaceful.
