RJD MLC 'Digitally Arrested' For Hours At Patna Residence, Fraudsters Say 'You Might Be Killed'
The fraudsters allegedly quoted a fake case number and even shared a mobile number supposedly linked to the MLC to make their claims appear legitimate.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) in Bihar, Mohammad Shoaib, was reportedly “digitally arrested” and personal information was extracted at his residence in Patna by cyber criminals, police said.
Based on a FIR filed on April 10, Shoaib complained that the accused threatened him with “legal action and even death,” stating that if he tried to leave his home or ask for help.
The complaint stated that around 10:30 am on April 8, Shoaib received calls from two different numbers, with the caller claiming to be a Cyber Crime Unit officer from Mumbai Police. “They said that I was involved in a money laundering case and had done fraudulent transactions and illegal online activities to the tune of crores through a Canara Bank account in Mumbai,” he said in the FIR, Indian Express reported.
Fraudsters Detain MLC Until Midnight
The fraudsters allegedly quoted a fake case number and even shared a mobile number supposedly linked to the MLC to make their claims appear legitimate. They reportedly "virtually detained" Shoaib until midnight, repeatedly threatening him with legal action and coercing him into sharing personal and sensitive banking details under the pretext of resolving the issue.
“They even extracted my personal information, including Aadhaar number, details of assets such as gold and cash reserves, and a few records of my possessions. They also took my signature on blank paper,” the MLC said in his statement.
“They said that if you step out of your house or reach out to others for assistance, chances are that you might even be killed,” he accused.
Growing suspicious, Shoaib eventually reached out to the police and lodged a formal complaint. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
