Bengaluru Autorickshaw Fares Likely To Rise Following Metro, Bus Tariff Hike
Currently, the minimum fare for an autorickshaw ride in Bengaluru stands at Rs 30 with an additional charge of Rs 15 per kilometre beyond the initial two kilometres.

After the recent increase in Metro Rail and government bus fares, autorickshaw fares in Bengaluru are also expected to rise. The Bengaluru City District Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has scheduled a meeting on Wednesday to discuss a potential fare revision, following demands from autorickshaw drivers’ associations.
Currently, the minimum fare for an autorickshaw ride in Bengaluru stands at Rs 30, with an additional charge of Rs 15 per kilometre beyond the initial two kilometres, reported PTI. However, drivers’ unions have proposed a steep hike, suggesting that the minimum fare be increased to Rs 50, while the per-kilometre charge beyond two kilometres be revised to Rs 25. The transport department, however, is pushing for a more moderate increase, advocating a minimum fare of Rs 40 and a per-kilometre rate of Rs 20.
The final decision will be made by the District Transport Authority (DTA), which is chaired by Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha G, as per a report on Deccan Herald. The committee will consider various factors, including fuel prices, operational costs, and traffic conditions, before arriving at a decision on the fare revision.
If the fares are increased, the impact is likely to extend to ride-hailing services, which will be forced to adjust their pricing accordingly. Swabhimani Chalakara Sanghatanegala Okkoota (SCSO) president Tanveer Pasha has already indicated that any rise in autorickshaw fares will push ride-hailing platforms to revise their pricing structure.
"Once the autorickshaw fares go up, the ride-hailing companies will have to increase the fares of cab services," he said.
Bus Fare Hike
Meanwhile, bus fares across Karnataka were increased by 15% in January 2025, following administrative approval by the state cabinet to address financial and operational challenges in the state-run road transport corporations (RTCs). The last fare revision for the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) took place in 2015, while fare hikes for the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), and Kalyan Karnataka Transport Corporation (KKRTC) were implemented in 2020, reported Indian Express.
With autorickshaw fares now under review, commuters may soon face higher travel costs across multiple modes of public and private transport in Bengaluru.
