AMU Guest Lecturer Booked For Making 'Abusive' Remarks On PM Modi, CM Yogi

The matter was brought to light by a local Congress youth leader, Raja Bhaiya, who lodged a complaint with the Civil Lines Police Station, demanding action against the guest lecturer.

A guest faculty member at Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh was booked for making "abusive" remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The "objectionable" comments were made by the guest lecturer during a confrontation with AMU security personnel on the night of January 11. The matter was brought to light by a local Congress youth leader, Raja Bhaiya, who lodged a complaint with the Civil Lines Police Station, demanding action against the lecturer, news agency PTI reported.

The AMU authorities then issued a show cause notice to Arimandan Singh Pal, the guest faculty member in the university's Sanskrit department. Following this, a preliminary investigation was conducted after which he was temporarily relieved, AMU spokesperson Professor Vibha Sharma stated in a press briefing on Friday.

In an official statement, AMU Proctor Mohammad Waseem Ali noted that the varisty proctor had launched an inquiry into the incident on the day it took place, PTI reported.

Ali also said that Pal was taken for a medical examination at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital by a group of students that witnessed the altercation with AMU security personnel. They wanted to ascertain whether Pal was drunk during the incident. However, he left the spot before being examined.

Pal was later booked for allegedly using abusive language against the prime Minister, chief minister, and university officials, Circle Officer Abhay Pandey told PTI.

In a similar incident, another man was reportedly arrested in December last year for allegedly making objectionable remarks against the PM and CM Yogi on Facebook in UP's Mirzapur.

The accused, Hiramani Yadav, was arrested by the police from the Lalganj Police station, after they took cognisance of the Facebook post and registered a case against Yadav.

The man, a resident of Kashinath village in Lalganj, later apologised to the police, promising to never repeat the offence in future.
