Amit Chavda Returns As Gujarat Congress President, Tushar Chaudhary Named CLP Leader In Reshuffle
The Congress party appointed Amit Chavda as Gujarat state president, replacing Shaktisinh Gohil, and Tushar Chaudhary as legislative leader, aiming to revitalize the party after bypoll losses.

In a significant organisational shake-up, the Congress party on Thursday appointed senior leader Amit Chavda as the new president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), replacing Shaktisinh Gohil. Alongside, Tushar Chaudhary was named as the new Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the Gujarat Assembly.
The appointments, approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, are seen as part of the party’s strategy to revive its base and strengthen its state unit following a disappointing performance in recent bypolls.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) appreciated the contributions of outgoing GPCC president Shaktisinh Gohil, who had taken over the post in June 2023 ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Gohil tendered his resignation after the party failed to win either of the two seats contested in the recent Assembly bypolls. He was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha.
“AICC president has appointed Amit Chavda as the president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect. Congress president has also approved the proposal for the appointment of Tushar Chaudhary as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Gujarat, with immediate effect,” AICC general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal said in a statement.
About Amit Chavda And Tushar Chaudhary
Amit Chavda, a five-time MLA from Anklav in Anand district, returns to the role of GPCC chief, a position he previously held from 2018 to 2021. Known for his calm demeanour and deep grassroots reach, Chavda belongs to the prominent Chavda-Solanki political family and is the grandson of former MP Ishwarbhai Chavda. His reappointment signals the party’s intent to rebuild organisational strength and reconnect with the electorate at the local level.
Holding a diploma in chemical engineering, Chavda has also served in leadership roles within educational trusts and cooperative bodies.
Tushar Chaudhary, a former Union Minister and influential tribal leader, takes charge as CLP leader. His elevation is seen as a move to bolster the Congress’ legislative strategy and strengthen its appeal in tribal-dominated regions of Gujarat.
Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Challa Vamshi Chand Reddy as the in-charge of the party’s organisation department. He will coordinate the selection process for District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents and oversee feedback collection regarding their performance and organisational effectiveness.
