Amarnath Yatra Cut Short To 38 Days Amid Tightened Security Measures. Check Details

This year's Amarnath Yatra is shortened to 38 days, starting July 3, due to celestial calendar. A comprehensive security plan involving CRPF, police, and army is in place following the Pahalgam attack.

The duration of the Amarnath Yatra has been reduced this year. The Yatra will begin on July 3 and will continue for 38 days, compared to 52 days last year. Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, a comprehensive and well-coordinated security plan has been put in place to safeguard the holy journey, involving the CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Indian Army. It is to be mentioned that the date for yatra was selected before Pahalgam attack and it has nothing to do with security issues. The yatra dates are decided on basis of celestial calendar.

Security Audit and Digital Mapping Conducted

A total of 581 companies from the CRPF and other paramilitary forces will be deployed to ensure security, alongside personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police. A security audit and digital mapping of all routes have been carried out. The Director General of CRPF personally visited Pahalgam to review the arrangements. Every pilgrim and pony rider will be issued a digital identity card.

The convoys will be equipped with jammers to prevent incidents such as IED blasts. Satellite phones will be provided to security personnel. Pilgrims and vehicles will be monitored using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Dedicated PCR vans from the police and CRPF will accompany the yatra.

On May 30, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah instructed all security agencies to maintain high alertness and vigilance to ensure a completely peaceful Amarnath Yatra.

The high-level security review meeting, chaired by Amit Shah, was attended by:

-Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha

-Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan

-Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi

-J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo

-DGP Nalin Prabhat,
as well as top officials from the Home Ministry, armed forces, paramilitary forces, J&K Police, civil administration, and intelligence agencies from both the Centre and the Union Territory.

Home Minister Shah assured that both the Central and Union Territory administrations would leave no stone unturned in providing all essential facilities to the pilgrims.
