Akhilesh Hits Back At Yogi's 'Vulture' Remark Over Maha Kumbh: 'Insulting Those Searching For Lost Loved Ones'
SP leader Akhilesh Yadav criticised Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath's "vulture" and "pig" remark regarding criticism of Maha Kumbh's handling. He slammed Adityanath's choice of words.

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has strongly criticised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over his recent remarks regarding the Maha Kumbh, questioning the intent behind his "vulture" and "pig" analogy.
Addressing the media in Kannauj, Yadav took a swipe at Adityanath, asking, "What has been built for vultures in Gorakhpur? A vulture breeding centre has been established. Who was he insulting by calling them vultures? Was he referring to those searching for their lost loved ones? Is the government calling them vultures?"
He further countered the Chief Minister's remarks on Ganga's water quality, stating, "He is speaking of 'suar'. None of us said that the quality of water of river Ganga is bad, the Central Pollution Control Board said that. Who was the government calling pig? I think, in the fight between Delhi and Lucknow, they are abusing each other. If Uttar Pradesh Pollution Board is saying that the water is clean and Delhi's Pollution Board says that the water is bad, it means 'Lucknow' was calling 'Delhi' pig."

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister went on to call the 'double-engine' BJP government a "double blunder" government, "Their engines are colliding. People are waiting to vote them out".
Yadav also took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond to Adityanath's speech, without directly naming him. Referring to the recent stampede at the Maha Kumbh, which claimed at least 30 lives, Yadav remarked, "But those who searched for their loved ones at the Maha Kumbh neither found their names in the list of the dead nor in the lost-and-found register."
He further said, "Some people searched for political opportunism in the Maha Kumbh and found a medium for self-promotion. But they lost their morality, integrity, and human sensibilities, as well as balance in speech. Uttering indecent statements shows that peak negative mentality manifests in the form of words that do not care about the dignity of the country, time, and place."

He added, "While speaking about a holy religious-spiritual festival like the Maha Kumbh, the choice of words should be in accordance with the honour and prestige of the occasion. Those intelligent people hurt by such statements are requested to have a feeling of sympathy towards such people and not anger."
Yogi Adityanath's 'Vulture, Pigs' Remark At UP Assembly Over Maha Kumbh
The war of words erupted after Yogi Adityanath, during the Budget Session in the state assembly on Monday, attacked the opposition over their criticism of the state's Maha Kumbh arrangements. Citing a social media post, Adityanath remarked, "Everyone found what they sought at Maha Kumbh. Vultures only found corpses, pigs found filth, sensitive individuals found beautiful relationships, devotees found virtue, gentlemen found kindness, the wealthy found business, the poor found employment, and devotees found their God. Everyone saw the event according to their own nature."

Taking a dig at the Samajwadi Party, Adityanath said that during its tenure, the then-chief minister did not personally review the Kumbh arrangements and had instead appointed a "non-Sanatani" as the event's in-charge. He was referring to the 2013 Kumbh when Akhilesh Yadav was the Chief Minister and Mohammad Azam Khan was in charge of the congregation.
"In your time, the Chief Minister did not have time to see and review the event, and therefore, he appointed a non-Sanatani as its in-charge. But here, I myself was reviewing Kumbh and am still doing it. This is the reason that whoever went to the Kumbh in 2013 saw chaos, corruption, and pollution. There was no water fit for bathing in the Triveni of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. The Prime Minister of Mauritius is an example of this—he refused to take a dip," Adityanath said.
