'I Am Always Recruiting...': Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal On Oversees Entry-Level Hiring

Deepinder Goyal also disclosed that Zomato is primarily hiring for entry-level positions, with a particular emphasis on sales and technology roles

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal remains deeply involved in the day-to-day operations of his company, even handling entry-level recruitment himself. In a recent interview with Moneycontrol, Goyal revealed, "I'm also the HR guy in the organisation and that takes most of the time. HR, top level, building the top layer, or even the bottom layer. So, I am always recruiting, mentoring people and coaching people."

The 41-year-old CEO shared that he spends his time on the most pressing tasks of the day, adapting his focus accordingly. “My focus changes daily and I take it day by day,” Goyal said.

Goyal also disclosed that Zomato is primarily hiring for entry-level positions, with a particular emphasis on sales and technology roles. “We're mainly hiring at the frontline levels — entry-level sales, entry-level tech. I still hire for those roles,” he noted, adding that recruitment for senior and mid-level roles has slowed due to the company’s robust internal talent pipeline.

As Zomato continues to grow rapidly, Goyal acknowledged the increasing workload for the management team. When asked about the company’s long-term focus, he highlighted the importance of "execution quality" in the coming years.

"Right now, our hands are very full. Six months ago, we used to say we have 3.5 business arms — Zomato, Blinkit, Hyperpure, and dining out. But now that 3.5 has become 4 after the planned Paytm Insider acquisition, so we have a lot on our plate," he explained.

The interview was published just days after Goyal acted as a Zomato delivery partner in Gurugram to gain firsthand experience of the challenges faced by the company’s delivery executives.

After sharing his difficult experience of being denied access to the main entrance and lift at Ambience Mall while working as a delivery agent, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal announced that the mall has quickly addressed the issue.

Goyal, who spent a day as a Zomato delivery agent to gain insight into the challenges delivery partners face, posted an update on social media platform X. He revealed that the mall has now established a dedicated online food delivery pick-up point for all delivery personnel.
