Swadeshi Movement Is Powering India’s Economic Growth & Boosting Self-Reliance: Here's How

Patanjali’s Swadeshi movement is claimed to be aligned with India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, which promotes local manufacturing and employment.

Patanjali Ayurved claims it is helping India move toward self-reliance by promoting indigenous products and strengthening the rural economy through education and healthcare services. According to the company, in India’s rapidly evolving economic landscape, Patanjali Ayurved has emerged not just as a business success story but also as a key player promoting self-reliance and economic development through the Swadeshi movement. The company says it has given India a strong global identity by championing Ayurveda, organic farming, and indigenous products.

Patanjali stated, “The company began with Ayurvedic products like Dant Kanti, Kesh Kanti, and ghee, which gained popularity among consumers due to their affordability and natural ingredients.” The company claims it not only increased market competition but also inspired foreign brands to launch Ayurvedic offerings. This gave consumers indigenous and natural choices, helping reinforce cultural and traditional connections.

Strengthening the Rural Economy by Sourcing Raw Materials

The company further claims, “The Swadeshi movement led by Patanjali is not limited to just selling products. It is a broader philosophy aimed at driving change at the economic, social, and cultural levels. By sourcing raw materials directly from local farmers, Patanjali has bolstered the rural economy.” Through its factories, distribution network, and retail outlets, the company says it has created employment opportunities for thousands. It has also established manufacturing units across various states, boosting local industrial growth.

The company added, “Along with Ayurveda, Patanjali has also made significant contributions in the fields of education and healthcare. Institutions like Patanjali Yogpeeth, Patanjali University, and Gurukul are combining ancient Indian wisdom with modern science. Patanjali Ayurvedic hospitals and research centres across the country are providing treatments that encourage collaboration between Ayurvedic and modern medical practices.”

Steps Toward Economic Self-Reliance

Patanjali also said, “The company has played a crucial role in reducing India’s dependence on foreign brands. By introducing indigenous alternatives across sectors like FMCG, healthcare, textiles, and dairy, it has helped reduce imports and retain wealth within the country. This marks a major step toward economic self-reliance.”

The company claims, “Recently, Patanjali Foods shares saw an 8.4% increase, indicating financial strength. The company’s board has scheduled a meeting on July 17, 2025, to consider issuing bonus shares. This demonstrates that Patanjali is contributing not only to economic growth but also earning investor confidence.”

Aligned With ‘Make in India’

According to the company, “Patanjali’s Swadeshi movement is aligned with India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, which promotes local manufacturing and employment. The company has proven that indigenous products can not only be superior in quality but also affordable, making them accessible to the middle and lower-income segments.”
