Semicon India A Good Way To Communicate Successes: Rajeev Chandrasekhar  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the second edition of 'Semicon India', being organised from July 28-30 at Gandhinagar with participation of companies like Foxconn, Micron and IBM

Ahead of Semicon India 2023, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar has said that the event is a good way to communicate the tremendous successes the country has had in the past 15 months in the semiconductor industry. Minister of State Electronics and Information Technology Chandrasekhar, talking to news agency ANI, also said pointed out that there were a lot of questions amongst global companies, will India succeed in the semiconductor sector, as the country has failed repeatedly in the last 70 years in the area. 

"I am very happy that the second edition of the 'Semicon India' is happening in Gandhinagar. I am very happy because 15 months ago when the first 'Semicon India' was launched in Bengaluru there were a lot of questions amongst global companies- will India succeed? Will India again fail? As India has failed repeatedly in the last 70 years in the area of Semicon and having the second edition in Gandhinagar is a good way to communicate the tremendous successes that we have had in the last 15 months..., "MoS IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Tuesday, as per ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the second edition of 'Semicon India', being organised from July 28-30 at Gandhinagar. With the participation of companies like Foxconn, Micron, AMD, IBM, Marvell, Vedanta, LAM Research, NXP Semiconductors, and STMicroelectronics, the event will throw a light on India's rapid strides towards fostering global semiconductor manufacturing and design ecosystem.

An official statement about the event said that it will offer deep insight into cutting-edge technologies and innovations in chip-making and will bring together the biggest names in the semiconductor and technology industry.

Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Railways and Communication Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar will also be present at the Semicon India 2023.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar told ANI that since the first Semicon India in Bengaluru 15 months ago India has grown tremendously in the area of design innovation, in the area of research, in the area of talent, and big global companies like Mircon setting up their facility in Gujarat. He also noted the effort made by the Gujarat government in developing Dholera as a competitive destination for companies to set up facilities. 

The Gujarat Government has also introduced the Semiconductor Policy (2022-2027), a strategic initiative to promote rapid and inclusive growth in the domestic semiconductor chip manufacturing sector. 

Micron, a leading chip manufacturer, earlier announced its plans to establish a semiconductor assembly and test plant in Gujarat, with a total investment of $2.75 billion.
