Rape Charges Against JSW Chairman Sajjan Jindal False: Mumbai Police In Closure Report

According to the closure report, the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Police, responsible for the investigation, determined that Sajjan Jindal was not present at the hotel on the day of the alleged incident

The Mumbai Police has concluded its investigation into the rape complaint lodged against industrialist Sajjan Jindal last December, asserting that he was "framed" by the complainant. According to several news report, the closure report submitted in the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court on March 16 exonerated the JSW Group chairman and MD of any wrongdoing.

According to the closure report, the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Police, responsible for the investigation, determined that Jindal was not present at the hotel on the day of the alleged incident. Testimonies from witnesses at the hotel corroborated this finding.

Investigators highlighted a significant gap of nearly two years between the alleged incident in January 2022 and the filing of the FIR in December 2023. Despite assurances in the FIR, the complainant failed to produce evidence and did not record her statement despite repeated requests from the police.

Based on witness testimonies and evidence collected during the probe, the police concluded that no wrongdoing occurred. Consequently, they have requested the metropolitan court to grant a "summary judgment" of the case.

A summary judgment is issued by a court without a trial when there is no genuine dispute about the essential facts of the case, facilitating a swift resolution based on legal merits.

Sajjan Jindal had vehemently denied the rape allegations, describing them as "false and baseless," and had pledged full cooperation with law enforcement agencies. The FIR against the billionaire industrialist was filed under sections 376 (rape), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
