Govt To Launch GST Reward Scheme In 6 States, UTs From September 1

Under the 'Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar' scheme winners of the monthly and quarterly draw stand a chance to receive cash rewards ranging from Rs 10,000 to an impressive Rs 1 crore

The Centre is set to launch the 'Mera Bill Mera Adhikar' invoice incentive scheme, to encourage people to ask for GST bills every time they make purchases. The GST scheme offers cash rewards from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 crore. According to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), the scheme will start on September 1 in six states and Union Territories.

"Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar! Scheme to be launched from September 01, 2023 in states of Haryana, Assam, Gujarat & UTs of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu & Puducherry. Invoice incentive scheme which allows you to earn cash prizes on upload of GST Invoices," said CBIC in a tweet.

In an earlier tweet, the indirect taxation body had informed that all invoices from suppliers registered under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and issued to consumers will qualify for this initiative. Winners of the monthly and quarterly draw stand a chance to receive cash rewards ranging from Rs 10,000 to an impressive Rs 1 crore.

For an invoice to be considered in the lucky draw, it must reflect a minimum purchase value of Rs 200. Each individual will have the opportunity to upload a maximum of 25 invoices per month, beginning in September. To facilitate this process, the 'Mera Bill Mera Adhikar' mobile application will be accessible on both IOS and Android platforms. The uploaded invoice should contain essential details such as the seller's GSTIN, invoice number, amount paid, and tax amount.

In a bid to tackle GST evasion, the government has already mandated e-invoices for all Business-to-Business (B2B) transactions with an annual turnover surpassing Rs 5 crore. Now, a new scheme is being introduced to extend electronic invoice adoption to Business-to-Consumer (B2C) interactions, fostering transparency and participation.

This newly launched scheme will not only encourage the generation of electronic invoices at the B2C level but will also provide an opportunity for buyers to partake in a fortunate draw based on these invoices, an official said, as per a PTI  report on August 20. The core intention, according to an official, is to motivate customers to demand valid invoices from sellers in their B2C transactions involving the purchase of goods or services.
