The Karnataka government declared a public holiday for schools, colleges, and offices today in mourning following the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Union government has also announced seven days of national mourning to honour his memory.

Following the announcement of a government holiday in Karnataka, there was speculation about whether Friday, December 27, would also be a holiday for schools and banks in other states.

Will Banks Be Closed on Friday, December 27?

There is no official confirmation yet regarding whether banks will be closed on Friday, December 27. An announcement on this is still awaited. However, As per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar, banks in the Kohima region of Nagaland will observe a holiday on Friday for Christmas celebrations.

While the RBI provides a scheduled list of holidays for banks each year, specific national or state circumstances may lead to variations.

However, customers can still use digital banking services on Friday. Payment methods such as IMPS, NEFT, UPI, and other online banking and mobile app functions will continue to operate as usual.

Karnataka Holiday: Are Banks, Schools, and Government Offices Closed?

December 27 has been declared a public holiday in Karnataka by the state government to honour the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Telangana Holiday: Are Government Offices Closed?

Telangana will observe a holiday on Friday as the government led by Revanth Reddy has announced the closure of government offices and educational institutions, according to a News18 report. 

Additionally, Delhi's Chief Minister Atishi has cancelled all government events on Friday, and the Union Cabinet is expected to meet at 11 am, as reported by The Economic Times.
