Jharkhand Budget 2024: Key Allocations Aimed At Promoting Agricultural Welfare, Social Security

The Jharkhand government unveiled a Budget of Rs 1.28 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2024-25 during the Assembly session held on Tuesday. Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon, while addressing the Assembly, highlighted key allocations and schemes aimed at promoting agricultural welfare and social security.

The Budgetary estimates for the upcoming fiscal year mark a notable increase of over 10 per cent compared to the previous financial year. The JMM-led coalition government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Champai Soren, aims to address various socio-economic challenges through strategic fiscal planning.

Key highlights of the Budget include:

Farm Loan Waiver Scheme: The government has raised the limit under the Farm Loan Waiver Scheme to Rs 2 lakh, a significant increase from the previous Rs 50,000 limit. This move is expected to provide substantial relief to farmers grappling with debt burdens.

State Food Security Programme: A notable expansion of the state food security programme is underway, with plans to cover an additional 5 lakh beneficiaries. The government aims to enhance food security measures, ensuring access to essential commodities for vulnerable sections of society.

Inclusive Development Initiatives: A separate 'Bal' Budget has been introduced to facilitate inclusive development for students, with an allocation of Rs 8,866 crore. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to nurturing the educational needs of the youth.

Housing Scheme: Under the 'Abua Awas (Housing) Yojana', the government has proposed the construction of 3.50 lakh houses in the fiscal year 2024-25. This initiative aims to address housing shortages and improve living conditions for marginalized communities.

Expansion of Food Security Schemes: The government plans to increase the number of beneficiaries under the state food security scheme to 25 lakh, up from the existing 20 lakh beneficiaries. Additionally, the inclusion of Soybean chunks alongside pulses and rice in food distribution further enhances nutritional support for beneficiaries.
