Finding a job is a tedious task. Some of us get lucky with one attempt, while others have to walk on a much more difficult path. One such story is of Qingyue Wang, who found her dream job at Google, but not without treading multiple obstacles.
Sharing her journey in a post on professional social media platform, LinkedIn, Wang said that she failed 5 times before finally landing her dream job as a software engineer at Google.
Wang first applied to the tech major in 2018, where she failed to pass the online assessment round. “The 1st time was in 2018. I received an online assessment from Google. I was excited, but I didn't pass the OA,” she said in her post.
Later, she was reached out by the company as an interviewer wanted to give her a second chance based on the answers of her online assessment form. However, Wang shared, she failed to pass at her second attempt as well.
“My 3rd attempt was in early 2020. I had a phone screening interview, which I didn't pass. Persisting, I applied again in 2020 for a Site Reliability Engineer role. After four rounds of interviews and receiving positive feedback, the role was unfortunately canceled due to the pandemic,” Wang shared detailing her third and fourth attempts to secure employment at the tech firm.

Finally, Wang managed to secure a software engineer role at Google in 2022. Post the successful hiring process, she received a congratulatory note from the company which said, “Congratulations, searching for a job is hard”.
The Canada-based individual said that she kept that note with her for the last 2 years to remind herself to keep working hard and not give up. “I've kept this paper for 2 years now as it continually reminds me of the importance of persistence and not giving up,” she added in the post.
Using her story, Wang urged people to keep going as ‘persistence is typically a major factor and it's something within your control’. The post went viral and received a mixed response from Netizens. Some users applauded Wang for her sincerity and thanked her for sharing the inspirational story. However, some also pointed out that the process indicated several issues with the current hiring process followed by firms.
