Disney Layoffs: Media Firm Fires Several Employees Across Departments
Disney Layoffs: Disney began its cost-cutting measures last year, which ultimately resulted in the elimination of 8,000 positions
Disney Layoffs: Walt Disney is implementing layoffs at the corporate level as part of an ongoing strategy to enhance the company's profitability. This decision is taken amid the company's efforts to streamline operations and improve financial performance amid a challenging market environment.
“As part of this ongoing optimisation work, we have been reviewing the cost structure for our corporate-level functions and have determined there are ways for them to operate more efficiently,” the company said Wednesday in an emailed statement, according to a Bloomberg report.
According to the Deadline website, approximately 300 legal, human resources, finance, and communications jobs have been affected. At the same time, divisions such as ESPN and the theme parks were not included in this latest round of layoffs.
Disney began its cost-cutting measures last year, which ultimately resulted in the elimination of 8,000 positions. Like its competitors Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery Inc., the company has faced challenges due to a decline in traditional television viewership as audiences increasingly shift toward streaming services.
Meanwhile, Paramount Global announced on Tuesday that the entertainment firm plans to fire several employees amid the challenging times. This decision will impact multiple divisions within its portfolio, including prominent networks like CBS, Comedy Central, and MTV.
In a memo to employees, Paramount's co-CEOs—George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy, and Brian Robbins—stated that these measures are essential for ensuring the company’s long-term success. “In order to set Paramount up for continued success, we are taking these actions, and after today, 90 per cent of these reductions will be complete,” the memo read, as reported by Variety.
Layoffs have become a cruel reality for most industries worldwide today. Regardless of the sector, job cuts are making employees uncertain about their future. Most of these job cuts result from post-pandemic effects on businesses struggling to get back to profitability.
