A major announcement made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was that the government will privatise two public sector banks other than IDBI Bank. One general insurance company will also be privatised in the coming fiscal, she said. The government has pegged its target for disinvestment for FY 2021-22 at Rs 1.75 lakh crore. Sitharaman concluded her speech by saying, that there will be no relief for common taxpayers, without mentioning the Income Tax slab which means that IT slabs remains unchaged for 2020-21 fiscal.

New Delhi: Congress leader and spokesperson Manish Tewari criticised Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman Budget for the fisical year 2021-22 on Monday. He said that 'Financial Minister's Talkthorn is oblivious to the growth rate of the GDP'.

Earlier, he commented on the Economic Survey. He said that this was the most crucial budget since 1991 as the GDP has been declining for almost three years now and hoped that the finance minister realised the gravity of the times. “This is the most crucial budget after 1991. GDP is in the 37 th straight month of Decline. I do hope @nsitharaman acknowledges the seriousness of the situation. However if economic Survey was anything to go by then all you may get is a Talkathon of fluff sans any substance,” the Congress’ Member of Parliament wrote on Twitter.
Shashi Tharoor also chimed in with a tweet, comparing BJP goverment to a car mechanic.
