Adani Energy Solutions Bags Rs 25,000 Crore HVDC Project Between Bhadla And Fatehpur

The Bhadla-Fatehpur project marks AESL’s third HVDC initiative, following the completion of the Mundra-Mahendragarh project and the ongoing Aarey-Kudus project

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), a key part of the Adani Group, announced on Tuesday that it has secured the Bhadla (Rajasthan) to Fatehpur (Uttar Pradesh) HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) project. This order, valued at approximately Rs 25,000 crore, marks the largest order win in AESL’s history. With this achievement, the company’s total under-execution order book now stands at Rs 54,761 crore.

Furthermore, AESL’s transmission network has expanded to 25,778 circuit kilometres (ckm) and its transformation capacity has increased to 84,186 MVA.
AESL secured the project through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism, with REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) serving as the bid process coordinator. The project’s Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) was officially transferred to AESL on January 20, 2025, the firm said.

The project, titled “Transmission system for evacuation of power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III Part I,” involves the development of a 6,000 MW HVDC system spanning approximately 2,400 ckm between Bhadla and Fatehpur, along with a 7,500 MVA transmission capacity. This initiative will facilitate the evacuation of 6 GW of renewable energy from various Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) in Rajasthan, beyond Bhadla-III, to meet the energy demands of North India and feed into the national grid. AESL has said that it will complete the project within 4.5 years.

Kandarp Patel, CEO of AESL, said, “By enabling efficient evacuation of renewable energy from some of the most inhospitable regions of the country and connecting them to the national grid, AESL is playing its role in India’s decarbonisation journey. We will be deploying latest technology and practices to deliver the project in time and with minimal environmental impact,”

Adani Energy said that AESL is the sole private-sector company to own an HVDC asset, which is the preferred technology for long-distance power transmission. The Bhadla-Fatehpur project marks AESL’s third HVDC initiative, following the completion of the Mundra-Mahendragarh project and the ongoing Aarey-Kudus project, which is being executed by its subsidiary, AEML.
