7th Pay Commission: UGC to implement recommendations from July 1, 2017

7th Pay Commission: Recommendations for revision of allowances for Teachers, equivalent academic staff, Registrars, Finance Officers and Controller of Examination in Universities and Colleges as proposed the MHRD will be applicable with retrospective effect from 1st July 2017. In a letter issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Commission shared the instructions issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), on 1st February 2019, as per which, the earlier letter dated 28th January 2019, which stated that the revised allowances as per 7th Pay Commission’s recommendations were to be implemented with ‘immediate effect’ should be read as ‘with effect from 1st July 2017.’
The confirmation by UGC for 7th CPC Recommendations comes as good news for thousands of central government employees working in the capacity of Teachers, equivalent academic staff, Registrars, Finance Officers and Controller of Examination in Universities and Colleges that come under the purview of UGC as well as those employees who are working in Deemed to be Universities whose maintenance expenditure is funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
As per the letter issued by the UGC, the Special Allowances for the Vice Chancellor, Pro- Vice Chancellor and Principals in UG and PG Colleges have been revised by a factor of 2.25 which makes the revised Special Allowances after 7th CPC recommendations as given below:
Vice Chancellor – Rs.11,250/- per month
Pro- Vice Chancellor – Rs.9,000/- per month
Principals in UG Colleges – Rs.6,750/- per month
Principals in PG Colleges – Rs.4,500/- per month
