New Volvo S90 Petrol Mild-Hybrid Review — Check Features, Price And Images
Volvo S90: A unique luxury sedan with a minimalistic design and impressive performance. Read More
Volvo cars have a classy and elegant design, which is minimalistic yet stylish. The S90 follows this design language with its updated luxury sedan and comes with some styling tweaks and a petrol mild hybrid powertrain, like the rest of the Volvo range. The proportions of the car are clean, upright, and long, with a distinctive long nose and C-shape tail lamps. The car turns heads without trying too hard. Inside, the same theme is carried on, with classy leather/wood trim and a black combo of excellent quality, giving a tough and well-built look without being too complicated.
All the functions are controlled through the main centre touchscreen, which has been made simpler and easier to use with the new Google-based infotainment system. The touchscreen also comes with Google Assistant, Google Maps, and more preloaded, making the whole system more intuitive.
The seats are beautifully built, very comfortable, and even come with a backrest massage. The crystal gear lever and fantastic Bowers and Wilkins audio system add to the cabin ambience. The car also has soft Nappa leather and ample space at the back, making it a comfortable chauffeur-driven car.
However, the driving experience is what we were more interested in, as the S90 comes with a mild hybrid petrol unit, which alters the driving experience. The mild hybrid system brings in a 48v battery that provides an additional boost while the engine uses a supercharger as well as a turbocharger. The standard is an 8-speed automatic, and the combined power is around 250hp.
The performance is sharp but not edgy, which suits the S90. You can push hard, and acceleration is quick, along with the necessary effortless cruising, which a luxury sedan of this class should have. The motor feels enthusiastic and will surprise many. The efficiency is also a pleasant surprise, with 10-12 kmpl, which is more than its rivals.
The rear air suspension and overall ride quality are very nice, which isolates the occupants from the road surfaces, making it cruise nicely with the poise of a luxury sedan. However, you have to be a bit careful with the low nose when fully loaded and going over any large speed breakers.
Priced at Rs 67.9 lakh, the S90 has a unique appeal, looks fantastic, has a quality-laden cabin, and drives well. It stands out from the crowd and remains a different but desirable choice.
