Skoda Slavia vs Honda City vs Hyundai Verna vs Rapid | 5 Factors That Determines Best Sedan
In terms of design, the Slavia being the latest entrant looks quite premium while matching up to the City or the Verna with a chrome grille and large headlamps. Read the complete review below.
The Slavia is slated for launch soon and would be a new midsize sedan from Skoda which would replace the earlier Rapid. In this article we will compare the upcoming Slavia with the main other contenders in the sedan segment including the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and also see how different the Slavia is from the Rapid itself.
1. Which is the longest sedan?
In terms of length, the City is the longest but that is closely followed by Slavia with the Verna being next. The Rapid is the shortest. The Slavia is the widest though followed by the City and the Verna. The Rapid is also the least wide. In terms of design, the Slavia being the latest entrant looks quite premium while matching up to the City or the Verna with a chrome grille and large headlamps. Of course, all cars have 16inch wheels and LED DRLs.
2. Space
The Slavia has the longest wheelbase in its class and that means it has very good legroom. Having seen the car, we will say that the Slavia does come across spacious for its rear seat. That said, even the Honda City still has the best space in terms of an airy cabin. The Verna is more compact and is best for four passengers overall. The Slavia is also a lot more spacious over the Rapid. In terms of boot space, the Slavia has the biggest boot as well followed by the City and Verna with the Rapid coming in last.
3. Features
While the Rapid lacked a modern looking cabin or technology, the Slavia will come in with the latest new features which will make it compete with the City, Verna etc. For starters the Slavia will have connected car technology with an inbuilt sim along with smartphone functions just like the City and the Verna. Also the Slavia has a sunroof like the City/Verna. The Slavia has a bigger touchscreen at 10.1 inch while getting a rear camera, touch based climate control and even ventilated seats. The Verna also has ventilated seats along with an air purifier plus a rear view camera. The City does not get ventilated seats but comes with lane watch technology which shows the left side feed on the screen when you put the indicator on.
4. Engines
While the Honda City gives you a choice of a 1.5l diesel or a petrol along with the petrol getting a CVT automatic, the Verna gives the most choice with two petrol engines including a 1.5l petrol and a 1.0l turbo petrol. Both engines get an option of a CVT auto with the 1.5l and a 7-speed DCT with the 1.0l. The Verna even gets a 1.5l diesel automatic. The Rapid once had a diesel automatic but later only got a turbo petrol with a manual. Now the Slavia will get two turbo petrols including a 1.0l and a 1.5l. Both engines will get an automatic option along with a manual with the 1.0l getting a torque converter auto while the 1.5l getting a DSG auto with paddle shifters on both.
5. Price
The City continues to be the most expensive in its class with a price ranging between Rs 11- 15 lakh. The Verna meanwhile is priced between Rs 9.3 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. The Rapid was affordable too with a price range between Rs 8-13 lakh. The Slavia would be more premium of course but it would be priced pretty much the same as its rivals with a price range between Rs 11-15 lakh. We think the Slavia looks appealing and premium along with the turbo petrol motors promising performance too.
