Mercedes-AMG GLE 63S Coupe review: Fastest SUV in India!
When you start driving the car, the feeling is surreal as the GLE 63S AMG is huge and feels like any big SUV, however, a small throttle input lets you know that this is no ordinary SUV.
New Delhi: The fastest, the biggest, and the baddest SUV out there that has also more power than most supercars- meets the not-so-subtle Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe. The car is as long as its name and other cars move away when they see it in their rear view mirror. The GLE 63S AMG Coupe is basically a mix of an SUV and a coupe along with some AMG special touches. AMG as you know is the famous performance car brand within Mercedes-Benz and the GLE 63 AMGS gets exactly that. You see a huge grille up-front while there are bigger intakes on the side plus see those equally big 22-inch wheels. Of course, there are quad exhausts at the back and a huge diffuser being an AMG.
Those exhausts are there for a reason to let the world and the driver inside hear the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine. You simply do not expect an SUV to be so powerful but it is and adding to the already large power output is an electric boost which further adds more bhp and torque. The electric boost is when you immediately start the car and it provides instant torque like an electric powertrain.
When you start driving the car, the feeling is surreal as the GLE 63S AMG is huge and feels like any big SUV, however, a small throttle input lets you know that this is no ordinary SUV. Power is immense and overwhelms the driving experience with 612bhp and over 850Nm of torque providing performance similar to a low-slung supercar. You are simply shocked by the level of the acceleration and a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.8 seconds proves that. The sound of the engine also adds a layer to the driving experience and it is properly loud with a dedicated button to open up the exhaust.

What's more, the clever tech on this car somehow makes the weight shrink and you are able to drive it like a much smaller car. It does not feel nervous at high speeds or very heavy (which it is) instead it feels sure-footed like any performance car. It is a supercar and an SUV combined together.
That we feel is the best bit of this car. You drive it fast and access the performance when you want it to, but otherwise, it becomes a luxury SUV and also quietens down. The ride quality is not too firm considering the huge wheels but you do need to be careful when going over bad road surfaces, however, the ground clearance is huge and you can raise/lower the car too. In standard comfort mode, you do not feel the immense power that it has and it is easy to drive overall.
The 9-speed automatic comes with paddle shifters while many specific settings can either make it louder/faster or quieter/easier to drive. It even delivers not-so-bad fuel efficiency with the engine shutting its cylinders when not required to increase efficiency.
The interior is spacious in terms of having an airy cabin and despite that low roofline, headroom and legroom are quite good at the back with ample boot space. The interior is traditional Mercedes with some AMG goodness thanks to a special steering wheel, carbon fiber finish, and Nappa leather. It feels expensive here because it is.
Speaking of which, at Rs 2.15 cr ex-showroom this is a kind of car for those who want everything and are prepared to pay for it. It is one of the fastest cars on sale in India but you do not have to worry about ground clearance or using it every day. So two cars into one, that is what the GLE 63S AMG is all about!
