Hyundai recently launched the new Exter small SUV in India and COO Tarun Garg at the launch also revealed how confident Hyundai is for the Exter to receive a possible 4 or 5-star crash test rating. Safety has risen as a big factor in car purchases and Hyundai has launched the Exter with many safety features as standard including 6 airbags. This is in line for a stricter GNCAP test rating with requirements of having more safety features in order for a car to gain an impressive score.

Hence, a car needs to have ESC and 6 airbags to score well which the Exter does. It should also be noted that none of Exter's rivals gets 6 airbags as standard or even ESC. Along with that, the carmaker has also paid attention towards the structure too. Of course, the real test is when the car is sent for a GNCAP evaluation but it is not clear whether the company will do that or send it for tests once the Bharat NCAP kicks in from later this year.

If we talk about the Exter, the safety features include six airbags plus ESC along with seat-belt reminders and three-point seat belts- for all trims. Then it also gets more safety features like ESC, vehicle stability management (VSM), hill-assist control (HAC), and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.

Hence, the Exter could be the safest small SUV in its class after it is tested by GNCAP or Bharat NCAP. The Exter comes with a sole petrol engine and it is also available with a CNG version too with an AMT and a manual gearbox. The small SUV starts from Rs 5.99 lakh as part of introductory pricing.
