Hyundai Exter Vs Tata Punch: As Battle For Small SUVs Heats Up, Know Which Is More Feature-Packed

The Tata Punch and the Hyundai Exter will be in a battle to lure buyers into the small SUV category as the biggest rival to the Punch is the upcoming Exter.

The Tata Punch has been one of the best-selling micro SUVs around and has been a big hit for them along with the Nexon. The Punch has good looks, compact dimensions, and a useful AMT gearbox as an option plus the concept of a proper SUV but only being a bit smaller. Hence, to capture this segment others have come in as well. However, the biggest rival to the Punch is the upcoming Exter which is squarely aimed at it. It is also a micro SUV while also getting a 1.2l petrol along with an AMT option.

Hence, the Punch and the Exter will be in a battle to lure buyers into the small SUV category. The Punch no doubt is a good-looking car with some attractive design details along with good ground clearance while the Exter too has a boxy SUV look with a two-part grille plus all of the usual SUV styling attributes.

In terms of size, the Exter seems to match up with the Punch with a similar length as per images while the wheelbase of the Exter is 2450mm along with the Punch wheelbase being at 2445mm. Both have cladding, wheel arches and pumped-up SUV looks.

Inside, the Punch gets a 6-speaker audio system, cruise control, auto headlamps, a 7-inch touchscreen, electric folding mirrors, climate control, a cooled glovebox, and a rear-view camera. The Exter meanwhile has an 8-inch touchscreen, digital dials, climate control while getting connected car tech plus a sunroof along with a dashcam. The sunroof and dashcam are segment-first features here too.

The Punch has a 1.2l petrol with 86bhp while the Exter also has a 1.2l petrol with 83bhp. Both cars get a 5-speed manual transmission along with an AMT. The Exter is the biggest rival to the Punch with similar specs while getting loads of features too so the pricing will be a deciding factor for many. However, the Exter comes across as a feature-packed small SUV while the Punch focuses on being a tougher SUV.
