Only Marwari MLAs from the JoraSanko seat have represented for a long time. As an exception in 1952, Forward Block Left's Amarendranath Basu defeated the Congress's Bhagwati Prasad Khaitan by an overwhelming majority. After this, the Congress was an undisputed king for the entire twenty years. From 1957 to 1977, the Marwari candidates of the Congress were victorious by heavy votes.
